WATCH THE HBCU CINEMA EXPERIENCE REEL

ABOUT THE HBCU CINEMA EXPERIENCE

The HBCU Cinema Experience provides advance screenings of films and television programming each semester at various Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). We serve as the singular platform that unites Hollywood and the HBCU community. Our goal is to offer new opportunities to HBCU students and create an exclusive entertainment experience at participating colleges and universities.

The inaugural HBCU Cinema Experience took place at Hampton University and Clark Atlanta University in the Spring 2016 semester. It provided a new method for our sponsors RLJ Entertainment and UMC – Urban Movie Channel to reach urban millennials and build excitement for their highly anticipated release NINA, starring Zoe Saldana. Students walked away from the HBCU Cinema Experience enriched, informed, and galvanized by the entertainment and information provided on their campus. Outspoken Media Group created the HBCU Cinema Experience to offer motion picture studios and television networks the opportunity to authentically engage young African Americans, provide students with hands-on experience and build excitement for upcoming programming.

In 2017, we will introduce the HBCU Cinema Experience Spotlight in order to provide students the opportunity to do a monthly editorial on prominent figures in Black Hollywood. The HBCU Cinema Student Showcase will feature short films and digital content from students at participating HBCUs. This platform will introduce the filmmakers of tomorrow to our database of entertainment insiders and distribution partners. We are also creating the HBCU Cinema Experience (Alumni Edition) in order to engage HBCU alumni members in key African-American markets. In addition, we are developing the HBCU Cinema Experience (On the Road) docuseries that will capture the excitement both on campus and at alumni screenings throughout the country.

We are proud to give back to a community that has provided so much to the world of entertainment. Famed HBCU alumni include Oprah Winfrey (Tennessee State University), Spike Lee (Morehouse College), Taraji P. Henson (Howard University), Wanda Sykes (Hampton University), Common (Florida A&M University), among others. The HBCU Cinema Experience will continue to provide new opportunities to the urban millennial generation and enthralling entertainment experiences at HBCUs nationwide.

HBCU CINEMA EXPERIENCE (ALUMNI EDITION)

The HBCU Cinema Experience (Alumni Edition) will consist of advance screenings for HBCU alumni members to enjoy in key African American markets. We will organize a panel of distinguished HBCU alumni in order to discuss the importance of diversity in film and television. We will also address current affairs relative to the African American community.

HBCU CINEMA EXPERIENCE (ON THE ROAD)

The HBCU community is comprised of people from various socio-economic backgrounds and geographic regions of the country. The college campus serves as a home away from home for most of the students. The HBCU Cinema Experience (On The Road) will take viewers on a journey of HBCU campus life, alumni engagement, and all of the preparation that is required to host a successful entertainment event. We will also feature the filmmakers of tomorrow with the HBCU Cinema Student Showcase. Our docuseries will give participating HBCUs the opportunity to promote the rich history of their educational institution and highlight famed alumni. We will also showcase faculty members from various departments such as film studies, journalism, and communication.

The HBCU Cinema Experience (On The Road) will also capture footage from HBCU alumni screenings in key African-American markets. This will give distinguished alumni members the ability to join the conversation about the importance of diversity in film and television. In addition, HBCU alumni will have the opportunity to address current affairs relative to the African American community.

We will provide unparalleled programming that speaks to the interest of African Americans. Our docuseries will show viewers the impact that HBCUs continues to wake up today’s society. We look forward to taking you on this journey with us.

HBCU CINEMA EXPERIENCE

The HBCU Cinema Experience consists of advance screenings for HBCU students to enjoy. We will continue to bring highly anticipated films and television programming to Historically Black Colleges and Universities before they are available to the general public. We realize that African Americans are one of the fastest growing ethnic segments of American moviegoers as well as one of the youngest. We are excited to bring this exclusive entertainment experience to five HBCUs during the Spring 2017 semester.

HBCU CINEMA SPOTLIGHT

The HBCU Cinema Spotlight will consist of monthly editorials about prominent figures in Black Hollywood by select students at participating HBCUs. This platform will provide students the opportunity to showcase their writing talent and interface with actors, producers, directors, writers, etc. The editorials will be disseminated to our database of entertainment insiders and media professionals as well as our social media platforms. The HBCU Cinema Spotlight will provide a voice for Black Hollywood from a young African American perspective, which will galvanize film and television support in the HBCU community.

We will utilize promotion on social media as well as other digital platforms we are affiliated with such as Live from the Mia, which is the #1 online radio station in the United States on Streema.com. We are confident that participating students will benefit from this opportunity and the hands-on experience will help launch their careers after graduation.

HBCU STUDENT CINEMA SHOWCASE

The HBCU Cinema Student Showcase will feature short films and digital content from students at participating HBCUs. Each participating HBCU will select five (5) finalists from their campus. The winners will be determined based on the content that generates the most social media engagement on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. We will announce the campus winner during the HBCU Cinema Experience and their creative work will be showcased prior to the featured screening.

This platform will introduce the filmmakers of tomorrow to our database of entertainment insiders and distribution partners. Each campus winner will have their content featured on our website and social media platforms along with a biography of the filmmaker. We will showcase undiscovered talent like never before and give students unprecedented access to the world of entertainment. The HBCU Cinema Student Showcase will provide a voice for the urban millennial generation as well as help promote diversity in film and television. The filmmakers will be given the opportunity to dialogue with noted members in the entertainment industry who will provide them with valuable expertise. The HBCU Cinema Student Showcase will inspire young African American filmmakers nationwide.
